I have recently created a WordPress site, and suddenly it stopped loading. I don’t know which plug-in caused it as I installed a few (maybe Core Tweeks or maybe HeadSpace2).
- Log in to the site and make all the changes
- Load (see in the browser) all the pages except for home/front page
- Load the home page when logged in
I could not:
- Load the home page
- Edit .htaccess file or change permissions on it (644)
I was getting the following error in Chrome:
This web page has a redirect loop
The web page at http://www.seriousbusinessopportunity.co.uk/ has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Here are some suggestions:
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects.
My host company support team fixed .htaccess file permissions, but that did not fix the issue. Disabling all the plugins did not help. The site, however, started working fine when I changed the permalink structure to Default. When changed to any custom settings, the home page would not load again. Quite weird, don’t you think?
The solution appeared to be very simple – I installed and activated Permalink Fix & Disable Canonical Redirects Pack plug-in and the site started working immediately. Very cool, yeah? Well, not really. The homepage started loading, but any other page was redirected to the home page. I made a few more experiments with various settings in WP and in plug-ins, but to no avail. In the end, I decided to leave the permalink structure to default. So, if you know how to fix the issue, let me know.
